The members of the Association of Professional Librarians of the University of Alberta (APLUA) declare our public support of Dale Askey, an academic librarian at McMaster University, and fully support Mr. Askey in a lawsuit brought against him by Edwin Mellen Press.
APLUA joins the chorus of other librarians and library organizations/associations across North America who are declaring that this type of legal action goes against our core values as academic librarians – those of academic freedom and freedom of expression. We echo the joint statement from the Canadian Association of Research Libraries and the Association of Research Libraries.
You can show your support of Mr. Askey and academic freedom by signing this petition. More information about this matter can be found here: http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2013/02/08/academic-press-sues-librarian-raising-issues-academic-freedom
